Watched《赤壁》and The Dark Knight recently.
The former is really what friend S described as "嗤之以鄙". Please, forget the movie and read the book. Go ahead to watch it if you want a laugh, as I found it quite funny. In comparison, the latter has depth and is worth one’s time and $$.
The theme of fear, personified by the antagonist Scarecrow in the previous movie, is further explored in this sequel by the Joker. How apt this is in the world that we live in now, as too many events and devices are driven by fear and paranoia. From the psychological realm to the spiritual realm, fear is the most powerful and effective weapon to bind a person.
What struck me most was when the Joker places explosives on two of the ferries—one carrying convicts, the other with civilians—telling the passengers on each that the only way to save themselves is to trigger the explosives on the other ferry. The passengers on both ferries decided not to blow one another up. That reminded me that “nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others” (1 Cor 10:24).
Indeed, with all the chaos created by fear in this world, hope, faith and love remains the last line of defence to stand against fear.
